Important Information Regarding Anthem Cyber Attack
Pension Fund recently received an update from Highmark regarding the recent cyber attack on Anthem's member database. Anthem was the target of a sophisticated external cyber attack. These attackers gained unauthorized access to Anthem's IT system and obtained personal information on current and former members such as their names, birthdays, medical IDs, social security numbers, street addresses, e-mail addresses and employment information, including income data. Based on what is known, there is no evidence that credit card or medical information, such as claims, test results or diagnostic codes, were targeted or compromised.
Anthem has established a website with all of the current information (http://www.anthemfacts.com/). On this site is a letter to its members along with a Q&A sheet (http://www.anthemfacts.com/faq).
Due to the volume of information this breach involves, the names of potentially affected individuals are not yet known. Highmark is in close contact with Anthem to gain additional insight about this issue and learn how it might impact our members. As soon as Anthem provides Highmark with this information, Pension Fund will coordinate efforts to notify our members, as necessary. We will continue to follow the situation, and will be working with Highmark, Anthem, the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association and other authorities and keep you apprised of the situation.
