Sharon J. Coleman to Join Pension Fund Staff
(Indianapolis, IN) Sharon J. Coleman will join the staff as Senior Vice President of Operations and Corporate Secretary starting June 1. Ms. Coleman has served for nearly 21 years in the Office of the General Minister and President, most recently as Vice President of Operations.
In her new role, Ms. Coleman will lead Pension Fund’s Call Center staff, customer service team, and human resources. Pension Fund’s call center plays a key role in delivering the organization’s 5-Star customer experience. “When we began the search, Sharon immediately came to mind. She has been an invaluable colleague and has a gifted mind for workflow process and customer service. We know we need to improve in this area, and particularly in our internal workflow processes,” stated Pension Fund’s President and CEO, Rev. Dr. Todd A. Adams.
During her 21-year tenure, Ms. Coleman has been a key leader in contracting, planning, and leading the General Assembly of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). The biennial event —drawing more than 4,000 attendees—involves detailed contract negotiations for more than 8,000 hotel rooms, 50+ ticketed meal functions, hundreds of learning opportunities, vendor management, and directing the work of more than 400 volunteers. Throughout her 21 years, she has developed relationships with local, regional, and general church leaders and understands the unique nature of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
Ms. Coleman is highly regarded for her leadership development of young women, particularly women of color. “Sharon mentored many of the women who are in key leadership roles in the General Office. She has a gift for challenging people to develop and achieve professional goals and objectives that might otherwise seem unreachable,” shared Adams. Ms. Coleman has been a regular volunteer for Girls Inc., a local non-profit that provides business leadership mentoring to inner-city young women.
Ms. Coleman shared with the interview team that she is excited to take on the challenge of documenting and improving the workflows for Pension Fund and enhancing their current level of service to members and employers. “My mind just thinks this way. What is your process? Where is it documented? To whom does it connect? And how can we make it better?” Ms. Coleman also shared that “having worked with Dr. Adams for more than 8 years, we both know what are getting and I’m excited to work with him again.”
Ms. Coleman has a Master’s in Business Management and Human Resources from Indiana Wesleyan. She is the mother of three adult children and enjoys spending time with her three grandchildren. As a community leader, she is active in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and a board member for Global Gifts, an international fair-trade organization.
